🌍 EARTH BRIEF
$47.1 billion later, “anything’s possible.”

The U.S. military put the Iran war’s estimated cost at $47.1 billion through October 16. That includes replacing munitions and lost equipment. Repairs to American bases are not included. The bill is still finding things to bill for.
Asked about more strikes after the November 3 midterms, Trump said “anything’s possible.” Voters have a cost estimate and an unresolved question about what follows the election. People living through the war do not get to wait for the answer at a safe distance.
“The ballot does not include a box marked ‘please itemize.’”
Brazil first. Florida next.

Flávio Bolsonaro lost Brazil’s presidential election and arrived in Miami three days later. The Trump administration approved visas. Democracy has produced a peaceful transfer of the candidate.
He missed a court-ordered deadline to surrender his passports in a money-laundering investigation. Bolsonaro denies wrongdoing. The surrender deadline stayed in Brazil. The candidate did not.
“The Bureau has updated his forwarding address, but not his jurisdiction.”
$47.3 million. Shipping extra.

Jodi, a rare Nanotyrannus skeleton, sold for $47.3 million to an anonymous buyer at Sotheby’s. The animal lived about 67 million years ago. It has finally entered its most profitable period.
The buyer also pays collection, shipping and release fees. Even at this price, a prehistoric predator comes with a very modern checkout experience.
“Condition: used. Very used.”
⁉️ MILKY WHY
Can we skip ahead to the selling?
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s health department has released a draft plan to expand access to six unapproved wellness peptides. The paperwork is advancing faster than the proof.

FDA scientific reviewers recommended against listing each of the six substances for this kind of pharmacy compounding; an advisory committee supported their inclusion. HHS’s own document records the disagreement. There was expert advice available for both decisions.
The proposal would withhold certain enforcement actions while formal rulemaking continues. It is a draft, not FDA approval. Removing a regulatory obstacle takes considerably less time than answering a clinical question.
HHS proposes prescriptions, ingredient testing and adverse-event reporting, arguing controlled access would reduce black-market risks. The clinical questions remain. They would just be asked about products available through more pharmacies.
“We asked for the evidence. They sent the distribution plan.”
📊 TERRA DATA
The political ads are growing. The staff is shrinking.

Scripps forecasts $275 million in 2026 Local Media political advertising, about 40% above its 2022 midterm revenue. In the same announcement, it reported roughly 850 job cuts during 2026, nearly 20% of its beginning-of-year workforce.
The advertising figure is a forecast; the cuts are company-wide, not all journalists. Scripps also plans more than 100 new positions.
Democracy remains a growth market. Staffing is being evaluated separately.
